I finished my first successful run of my new 3-color silkscreen print, Big Sexy Hair! Inspired by the notion that spraying hairspray on spiders may not help you catch them... but instead can give them more volume and increased body =-)
I love taking a sketch, turning it into a digital image then putting it through an analog process-- it really evolved this piece!
This limited edition is only 12 prints on 9x12" velum! They come wrapped in cellophane on foam core, ready to be framed and can be purchased in our Etsy store: http://growbots.etsy.com/

9:35 pm - Big Sexy Hair
|

A while back there was this huge spider was walking quickly around our living room. Marnie thought it would be easier to catch it if we sprayed it with hair spray. So she found this big can of cheap hairspray with big red type on it that said "Big Sexy Hair". We laughed thinking that spraying it would instead give it a great head of hair.
Thus became the inspiration for a new character print design. This is a composite of stencils for a 3-color screenprint. I plan to have the prints on our online store in the next week or so!

Catching up on my LJ reading and had to post a recent pic:

I give my kid a lot of credit for standing by this thing and smiling. Personally, I'd run the other way! Wish I could say Happy Spring, but it's snowing a bit today and rather cold. But don't tell the crocuses.

I've been busy working on some designs for Screenburn, the big gaming conference at SXSW.
2-color T-shirt design I created based on the ScreenBurn logo:

And the full color version of the logo:

I stepped outside for a walk today and instantly got an ice cream headache. It's sooo freaking cold!
-- I'm working on a fun freelance project. I'll not disclose what all it is yet- not because it's that top secret, but because it's kinda fun to keep people guessing. Anyway, it's targeted towards the gaming crowd and I'm ironically not a gamer. Which makes my approach devoid of the cliche and fresh in the client's eyes. (Or at least that's how I'm interpreting it. I haven't told them I'm not a gamer).
-- Christmas is here.. almost. And today we took Little Man to have breakfast (brunch actually) with Santa. It was fun! They had 2 reindeer in the parking lot and we got some funny pics and video of them and Santa half holding Kai after he finished his cigarette. Santa was played by an older Greek gentleman who according to our waiter accidentally introduced himself as "Tom" to a little girl before we got there. Ah, childhood memories. There even more fun when you're adult.

Come on, Ohio... all eyes are on us. Let's not screw it up this time!
-- Today I paid $1.89 a gallon for gas. That is the cheapest it's been in years... a $2 drop from what it was a few months ago. And... it's the day before an election. Coincidence?

Ah, the quintessential image of a mid-western farm boy working in the pumpkin patch. Actually he was more interested in checking out the junk tractor at the back of the patch than he was in picking a pumpkin. More images here.
-- It's getting cold and I'm getting Election Anxiety. I really want it all to be over with. The recent poll numbers showing the closing gap are making me nervous. Go Obama!

This was the result of our neighbor's house who's tree fell, mentioned in my previously panicked entry. The site of this house stopped traffic on our street.. even caused a few car accidents by gawkers driving by.
Our house fared a bit better... we didn't even lose power! But we did lose the corner of the roof on our back porch:

I'll find out tomorrow morning what the insurance will cover.

I am witnessing the freakiest windstorm I've ever seen. This must be some post-Ike juju. We had our neighbor's tree fall into our yard. A huge branch from our tree came down and took out the eave on our porch and the gutters (yay! new gutters!).
And the scariest thing, I watched our neighbor's tree across the street break in half and fall onto his house! His dormers were crushed... thankfully he was not. I called the fire dept right afterward and it looks like they're all okay. I'd go out, but it's too damn scary out there!

I did a quickie trip to NYC yesterday which was a huge tease. We had a meeting with some consultants in Soho and few in and out on the same day which gave us very little time to walk the neighborhood and take in the sights. Meh.
But... little did I know that we were in the same building as illustrator Brad Holland's studio. My screencap while trying to log onto his wifi:

Happy Independence Day, America! Enjoy the new composition. I like how it turned out... I'm planning to make it into a new screen print. Coming soon to a store near you. (The challenge is to make that nice distressed look translate as effectively in a 3-color print.)
- Today was probably the Perfect Weather Day, if there is such a thing. I took in two bike rides, one with the family in tow and one by myself to smell the burning hot dogs and drink in some carny goodness from the festival going on down the street. Ah, summer.
- As I write this, Mortimer has caught his second mouse in 2 days and is gloating like there's no tomorrow. Good kitty...

10:16 pm - Random stuff in my head, and out of my hands
|
-- It was so hot, I felt like a fried egg today. Then the storm came in off the lake and it dropped almost 10 degrees in a two minute period. Right before that, I was adding grass seed to the patch I'm repairing in the front yard. I had no idea it was going to rain. But I'll bet the neighbors all thought I was really smart.
-- I spent the past two weekends with old friends who moved away. I'd like to make a habit of that.

Ah, Spring. The azaleas are in bloom and even the most bored and slightly depressed bunnies feel inspired to lay on a bed of white.
